Private Room in Upper Manhattan
- Air conditioning
The apartment is normally shared, but I am out of town at least 10 days a month so it offers a lot of privacy. I will be out of town on these confirmed dates:
Feb 6 to 16
Feb 20 to 23
Mar 6 to 16
I have a 2 bedroom apartment and sometimes rent out the second room. The apartment is in Washington Heights in uptown Manhattan. It is minutes (by foot) from Columbia's Presbyterian hospital and off of the 168 A (express), C and 1 stops. You will probably be able to get where you need to go in ~30-40 minutes. To approximate your travel time, go to hopstop dot com (I'm typing it like this because otherwise it is blocked) and use "168 & Broadway" as the starting address. It's a great neighborhood and we are just steps away from both the Fire and Police Departments. I feel very safe here (as a woman who lives alone)...both because there are professionals within a few blocks to help me with any problem I may have (firemen, cops, and doctors) and because people are ALWAYS out. Seriously, you can come back at any time and you won't be alone.
If you are here to work or study at New York Presbyterian Hospital or one of Columbia University's Upper Manhattan medical schools you will be very close. I once hosted someone doing a residency there and she was happy to be able to come home for lunch.
The kitchen has a coveted washer/dryer unit in it so you will not have to deal with lugging laundry around. Feel free to help yourself to any water you find in the fridge. Also, the kitchen has all of the basic cooking equipment so you can save money by grocery shopping and cooking if you choose to. The living room has a flat screen TV with a blu-ray DVD player. You will be able to use my NETFLIX account and watch videos using the Netflix app on the Blu-ray DVD player. Of course, Wifi is available throughout the apartment. Also, this is a pet-free household. The bathroom is shared with me. Sometimes I have guests, but this is rare and when I do they mostly stay in my room.
The apartment is cleaned at least every 2 weeks, even while you are here, so it stays clean even during longer stays. My super is very responsive (very rare in NYC) and the apartment was recently renovated so I have had no issues with the apartment. I clean very intensely between guests, including steaming the beds and drapes so that the apartment stays pest-free.
The room is bright and gets great light during the day. It has a super comfy Sleepy's pillow-top mattress (full sized). I provide bed linens and towels. There is also a large closet, a small chest of drawers, a desk and a chair. If you peek in the top drawer you will find a Revlon hair dryer that you can use.
This room is great for the athletic. It is a on the top floor of a WALK-up building (there are 5 flights of stairs, but being up high also means the apartment gets GREAT light). There is no elevator. I have an elliptical machine in the living room so you can keep up with your work out. There are also many nice areas around here for a run. Highbridge park is just steps away.
Sorry, there is ABSOLUTELY NO SMOKING ANYWHERE IN THE BUILDING (not just my apartment). Not even if you open a window. Not even if you catch a neighbor doing it. That's their business and I don't want trouble with my landlord. I don't want any illegal drugs in my apartment at all. If you have anything that's illegal in the US, please book elsewhere.
Since I live here, I can normally be flexible about check-in times. The check in times that are possible will depend on that day. I'm also flexible about check out if you need to leave your bags and come back later. It really depends on what I am doing that day and if other people are coming right after you.
If interested, please email me with information about you (and your companion). Let me know the purpose of your visit.
You will be able to use everything in the kitchen except for my juicer. Many people cook their meals and everyone has been able to find what they need. You can also use the TV (I rarely use it) to watch movies, TV, or use Netflix. Each guest gets his/her own set of keys to come and go as he/she pleases.
Interaction with Guests
It varies and depends on my work schedule and the schedule of the guests. Sometimes we go out for drinks.
I love the energy of this neighborhood and I always feel safe.
I live right next to the express A train which gets me downtown everyday very quickly. I am also next to the local C and 1 trains.
